I'm not sure what I was thinking. I had only enjoyed one year of sailing Ravat, my 1977 CS27 which had been through a 3 year refit. Two of those years had been spend cruelly perched on a cradle in a dusty boat yard, and had included re-coring 75% of the decks. It was really good to have a boat configured exactly as I wanted her, and not requiring much attention other than sailing.
But yet, here I was talking with a yacht broker about what we were looking for, looking at boats, and before I knew it, writing out a check. This was to be big-boat #2 for us. We definitely learned some things that we did and did not like in a boat over the four years we owned Ravat, and this new one pretty much ticked every box on our checklist. We ended up purchasing a 1992 Beneteau First 310, to be named, "Apothic."
The exterior is in great condition. There's a few places that need some minor fiberglass work, but primarily just some gelcoat work to properly patch the dings common to a boat of this age. The interior was nearly like new.
While she's an amazing boat, and in amazing condition, there's a lot to do. New sails, rigging, much electrical work, new electronics, and rigging her for a symmetric spinnaker are all on the list. The good news is, she's sailable right now and I can tackle these over time.
It sure was nice to have a boat whose to-do list was mostly conquered. Here we go again!
